Median

A median is an internal linear segment of a triangle, geometrically expressed through a segment connecting the vertex and the midpoint of the opposite side in a geometric figure. Do not confuse the median in geometry with the median in statistics – these are completely different quantities.

The calculator allows you to calculate the median based on the coordinates of the vertices of the triangle provided in the input fields.

The feature of the intersection point of the medians in a triangle is its belonging to the center of mass (center of gravity) of this geometric figure. Knowing the values of the medians and, accordingly, the center of mass of the triangle is important in engineering design calculations.

In a triangle, there are three vertices, and hence three medians, which intersect at one point and divide the geometric figure into 6 triangles of equal area. This property can also be important when cutting raw materials in the production process of manufacturing various parts.
