Online body fat percentage calculator/lean muscle mass by
skinfold thickness at three points on the body. The proposed calculator can calculate the approximate percentage
of fat and lean muscle mass depending on your weight, age, and thickness
of skinfolds/measured at three points on the body. The
calculator is based on the Jackson-Pollock formula.
Instruction
- Fill in the fields.
- Click "Calculate".
* How to take measurements:
With the help of the fingertips of your thumb and
index finger, pinch the skin at the indicated location. Pull the skin away from the muscles.
You should "grasp" all subcutaneous fat without the muscles underneath. Measure
the thickness of this skinfold/in millimeters using a (metric)
ruler or a special instrument. If you have such an instrument
(caliper for measuring skinfolds), then its jaws should be
applied to the location where the fingertips are (approximately 1 cm from
the fingers). Release the handles of the caliper and wait 2 seconds before
taking the measurement. The same point on the body should be measured several times
(release the fold and pinch the skin again, re-measure its thickness).
Calculate the average. The measurement results for the same
point should not differ by more than 1-2 mm. If you
don't have such a caliper, you'll have to make do with a ruler.
The procedure differs for men and women. Men measure folds on the
chest, abdomen, and thighs, while women measure on the triceps, above the iliac crest, and
thighs. See pictures below for both
genders:
Men:
Chest - Diagonal fold midway between
the nipple and the top of the pectoral muscle near the armpit.
Abdomen - Vertical fold 2.5 cm to the right of
the navel.
Thigh - Vertical fold midway between
the kneecap and the groin (depression where the upper leg
joins the buttocks).
Women:
Triceps - Vertical fold midway between
the shoulder top and the elbow.
Above the iliac crest - Diagonal fold above
the anterior superior iliac crest (area above the anterior
protruding area of the femoral bone)
Thigh - Vertical fold midway between
the kneecap and the groin (depression where the upper leg
joins the buttocks)
