Calculate the volume of the heating system

Calculation of water volume is necessary to know the maximum volume of the heating system at a certain capacity. Lack of knowledge may lead to inadequate room heating, inefficiency, and uneconomical boiler usage, resulting in increased expenses.

Select the type of radiators

Pipe diameter, mmLength of pipes, mPipe diameter, mmLength of pipes, m
16x2.0 20x2.0
26x3.0 32x3.0
20x3.4 25x4.2
32x5.4 40x6.7
Volume of water in the boiler room, collectors, and fittings l.
Volume of the heating system l.

To independently calculate the volume of liquid in the pipe, you can use the following formula:

S(cross-sectional area of the pipe)*L(length of the pipe)=V(volume)

In addition, calculation is possible using the sum of the components of the heating system:

V=V1+V2+V3+V4
• 1 – volume of the radiator;
• 2 – volume of the pipe;
• 3 – volume of the boiler;
• 4 – volume of the expansion tank.

Depending on the material, approximate calculations of the water volume in one section are presented:
• Aluminum – 0.45 l;
• Biometallic system – 0.25 l;
• Cast iron – from 1 to 1.7 l.
