Projection of vector onto axis
Control points of the vector projection onto the axis can be obtained by intersecting the perpendiculars dropped from the beginning and end of the vector onto this axis. The numerical projection of the vector is calculated by multiplying its length by cos the angle between the vector under examination and the direction of the axis.
The projection of a vector onto an axis is determined when solving various mathematical and physical problems. One of the particular cases of the stated problems is the determination of the direction cosines of a vector placed in space in a coordinate system xyz.
This solution is presented in the online calculator. The coordinates of the end point of the vector are given, the starting point is considered as the zero point of the system, the direction cosines of the vector are calculated.
Example: for a vector with coordinates a = (30, 40, 50) cos the angles between the vector under examination and the directions of the axes are equal to cos α = 0.42, cos β = 0.57 and cos γ = 0.71.
