Irrational number
Irrational number – is a number that, when written in decimal form, has infinite continuation. The most well-known examples are:
- number π =3,14159…;
- number e =2,7182…;
- square root of 2;
- value of the «golden ratio» 1,61803398… etc.
When using a formula «π», «e» or another irrational number with many decimal places, the project developer obtains a more accurate result.
Irrational numbers are often represented as roots, powers, etc. In this case, unlike the situation with decimal expression, recognizing an irrational number becomes difficult.
Doubting the rationality of a particular root or power value, the researcher (engineer, project designer) can set the number and degree of the root, and as a result, receive an answer as to whether the value of this expression is a rational or irrational number.
Let's give an example:
Enter the degree of the root – 3.
Enter the number 16.
After pressing the button «Calculate» in the corresponding field, a definition appears «Irrational number».
The next step is its calculation to the required accuracy, which will not significantly distort the value of the overall calculation result.
