What is a fraction?
Fraction in mathematics — a number consisting of one or several parts (shares) of a unit.
According to the way of writing, fractions are divided into two formats: common ones of the form , and decimal ones.
Types of fractions:
Common fractions
Common fraction (simple) has the form, where m and n - are natural numbers.
Dividend (m)-is called the numerator of the fraction, divisor (n) - is called the denominator of this fraction.
The horizontal or slant line in a fraction indicates division.
Important!
In any fraction, both in proper and improper n the denominator is not zero, since division by zero is not allowed.

A fraction is called improper if the absolute value of the numerator is greater than the absolute value of the denominator.
